Pointe work is for Ballet Students who are technically and physically ready for this advance form of Ballet. Students must be assessed by a qualified physiotherapist as well as their Ballet teacher and take minimum of three weekly Ballet classes.

Ballet classes for students 6yrs and up include Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT) exercises. PBT is an innovative body-conditioning and strengthening program that has been designed to enhance students' technique by focusing on training the muscle memory required in each exercise in all forms of dance. It is a unique training system using ballet-technique specific exercises to train skill acquisition in a graded and progressive manner from junior through to advanced levels. PBT helps students build up the strength they need to achieve their personal best.

  • Acrobatic dance, or acro as it is commonly referred to by dancers and dance professionals, is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context. Acro is an especially challenging style for dancers to master as training in both dance and acrobatic elements is required. Acro technique includes balancing, limbering, tumbling and partnering, based in flexibility, contortion and strength.

Classes are based on Acrobatic Arts program and annual examinations are available. As the focus in this class is to develop acro skills, students are encouraged to be training (or have trained) in another form of technical dance (ie. Ballet and/or Jazz). For Acro exam entry for all levels, it is a requirement to also take a weekly Ballet or Jazz class.

Classes are based on Asia Pacific Dance Association’s Encore Theatre Dance syllabus and annual examinations are available. As this is a performance based class, students are encouraged to be training (or have trained) in another form of technical dance (ie. Ballet and/or Jazz). For exam entry at Elementary through to Advanced levels, it is a requirement to also take a weekly Jazz class.

PERFORMANCES & EXAMS

A big part of dance training is learning through performance and at Dance Pointe we love to see our students shine on stage! We offer performance opportunities throughout the year at local community events for our Performance Teams and all Dance Pointe students are invited to perform at our end of the year stage production in Term 4.

We also offer annual examinations with Asia Pacific Dance Association in Ballet, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Tap and Musical Theatre in Term 2 and Acrobatic exams with Acrobatic Arts. Exams are a wonderful confidence-boosting, informal performance opportunity organised at our studios and we highly recommend it to all our dancers in preparation to the concert performance.

Students interested in competitions - solos, duos and trios are available upon request and auditions for performance teams are organised in Term 4 each year. Joining the Performance Team program mid year is assessed on a case by case basis.
